So this weekend was hot. HOT, I tell you, at least on Saturday when my apartment was a sweltering 86 degrees. It was lovely for a few hours, then I just wanted AC. Since I spent most of the day collapsed on the sofa in front of a fan, occasionally trying to get the poor overheated cats to eat some ice (turns out cats don’t like ice) I decided it was the perfect time to watch some movies.
Given my extreme lack of motivation to do anything requiring movement, I managed to work my way through all five Harry Potter movies. As always, this inspired in me the desire to a) eat British food (as I am apparently somewhat freakish in my love for it…but how can you not love such deliciousness as Shepherd’s pie and Yorkshire pudding? Or scones? Who doesn’t love scones?) and b) knit Christmas/Yule gifts for everyone. Call it Molly Weasley syndrome.
I’ve already started dreaming up ideas–I’ve knit things in the past, but I took a break last year and declared it a craft-free holiday for my own sanity. I have a small family, though, so I think I’m going to make a go at doing sweaters for both my parents, and lots of socks for my aunt. I’d make her a sweater too, but she doesn’t wear them so there wouldn’t be much of a point.
Oh, and did I mention that both my dad and aunt have birthdays in November and December? So far I’m looking at several possibilities.
For Dad I’m thinking It’s on the Tab, Malabrigo Loafers (which I think are similar enough to moccasins that he’d wear them), and maybe a keyboard duster and something to hold his thermos on the way to work and keep it warm.
For Mom, I’m looking at The Roll Neck Tee (it’s the one in red), and some facecloths with fancy soap. She thinks knit dishcloths are cute, so…
For my aunt, it’s tough–so many socks! I’ll probably do washcloths for her as well, and I’m considering some sort of reusable market bag. I like Hedera, and then maybe some plain-ish socks with self-striping yarn. I’m not sure–how many pairs of socks are roughly equal to one sweater? Yeesh.
Not to mention, I still have to finish the Socks for Seely (I did knit on them this weekend, despite the heat, and am into the foot on sock #2, hooray!) and a super secret project for someone else…and repair a coworker’s hat, and potentially work on a Starbuck hat for someone. Oh, and finish some of MY sweaters!
The more I look at this the more I think I need to get knitting! Yeesh. Molly Weasley syndrome is a dangerous thing indeed…
