The neverending project

So, I have a new project that I’ve already christened the Epic Project of Doom.

Epic sock blanket of doom

I’m sure many of you recognize it, but this is the very beginnings of my mitered square sock yarn blanket, based on the Sock Blankie by the Heathen Housewife.

Despite my goal to be all about finishing things in 2009, I don’t anticipate that this will be finished for, oh, five ten fifteen? or so years. Why? Well, first of all, I’m only using leftover yarn from socks I knit. No specially bought yarn, no begging for scraps. The idea is that when I’m done, I’ll have a patchwork memory blanket full of squares that remind me of things I’ve made. The second reason is that I intend for it to be a fairly large blanket, good for cuddling up in.

I’m knitting the squares on US1s, casting on 63 stitches for each square.  So far, those squares are from the socks I made for my Mom’s birthday last year, my Dad’s socks from 3 (?) Christmases ago, and my purple monkeys. Eventually, I suppose, I should also make a map in case I am too dottering and old forget what I’ve used by the time I finish the blanket.

A few stragglers from 2008

Despite my best intentions, there are a few straggling FOs that didn’t get posted to the blog before the end of 2008.

Lace Ribbon Scarf

My Lace Ribbon Scarf from Knitty in Classic Elite Aplaca Sox. This was a pretty quick knit, and is lots of fun to wear, though I only used 1 skein of yarn instead of the 2 recommended; I don’t think I could handle a super long scarf like that!

Purple Monkey Socks

I also finished my purple monkey socks. These are Monkey by Cookie A, knit in Pagewood Farms yarn. I love this yarn!! It’s super sproingy and delicious to knit with.

And, now, on to new projects in 2009! Steph 2009 is all about project completion–and less startitis.
