FO Friday: Simple Wrap Skirt

Friday, 25. June 2010 4:57

A while back I gave in to my urge to sew and decided to whip up a wrap skirt. I used a combination of tutorials I found around the internet to draft a simple pattern and some fabric I had bought a while back.

FO: Wrap Skirt

I’m pretty happy with it–there’s a bit on the waistband I’m not wild about, but I think it can be fixed. It feels weird to have a waist band with the tie threaded through it; there’s a bulky bit where it wraps. I’m not entirely sure how to fix that. One thought I had was to create a tie by attaching ribbon or fabric the same way one would do a quilt binding, over the top edge rather then creating a channel to thread the tie through, and then creating a buttonhole or a grommet to thread it through.

That seems to make the most sense, but it also seems like it would be complicated. Oh well, I can worry about it if I make another. Overall, I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. It’s a nice, summery skirt.

Now, if only we’d have one of our rare summer days, so I can wear it!

FO Friday: Rollneck Baby Sweater

Friday, 28. May 2010 8:06

Yes, I know! I finished something. It’s a minor miracle!

The finished object is the latest in a string of baby projects for my friends who are all suddenly having babies. I do appreciate the opportunity to try new patterns! This is a simple rollneck pullover knit in Mochi Plus in Lake Trail. The yarn is SO soft–and washable!

I like the way this turned out. I just need to find time to actually give it to the friend it’s intended for, as she’s already given birth.

Modeled by the ever-helpful assistant, Violet the Stuffed Bunny.

I love the colors in this yarn–I think it makes an adorable sweater and I hope it fits. Now, I just have to resist the urge to buy enough Mochi Plus to make a sweater for me….

Overall, I’d say this was a success!

FO Friday: Brilliant Retro

Friday, 5. March 2010 8:02

I was looking through my photos and projects on Ravelry and realized I have a few finished objects I haven’t shared with you yet! First up, Brilliant Retro. This was finished in 2009, but I waited until I went on vacation at Bass Lake to get photos. Photography is courtesy of Jenny Wilde, who is awesomely fantastic. Crappy modeling is courtsey of, well, me. Who needs to get better poses.

Ahem.

FO Friday: Bacon socks

Friday, 26. February 2010 7:17

These commuter socks have been hanging around on the needles for a long, long time. I have a tendency to switch back and forth between knitting and reading on my commute, so sometmes I go for quite a while and don’t knit much. Plus, depending on when I leave, it can be impossible to get a seat. But it’s nice to have a plain project to work on without thinking too much…I took these to Pantheacon and whipped through the second sock in no time at all.

Bacon Socks

The yarn is bacon yarn from Holiday yarns. I love this yarn! It’s so nice to work with, there’s plenty in the skein so no worries of running short, and c’mon, it’s bacon.

The pattern is just a basic sock formula.

Eggs and Bacon (socks)

Bacon and eggs. What? If you’d knit these socks, you’d take this photo too. Don’t lie.
