FO Friday: Drezdany’s Lost Civilization Socks

These were actually finished in 2010, but I’ve been holding off on the finished object post until I could give them to their intended recipient! (She was in Germany, I’m not just lazy. Well, maybe I am, but not in this case.)

Atlantis Socks

The pattern is Atlantis, from The Enchanted Sole by Janel Laidman. I’ve lost the info on the yarn, unfortunately. But I do love the way these turned out; I was a bit worried about the color and fit while I was working. The yarn looked very dark in low light, but once in natural light it’s a lovely bright teal, as in this photo.

I made Drez try her socks on as soon as I gave them to her, and luckily they fit. Like all toe-up socks I’ve made, they seemed to require a bit of tugging to get them up over the ankles but once on they fit okay. I’m not sure why toe up socks seem to want to do this all the time? It’s one of the many reasons I prefer top down varieties.

Atlantis: Leg Detail

The pattern is also lovely. The wavy pattern on the foot and beginning of the leg is very aquatic, and I love the columns of the cuff rising up out of the waves like the sunken city.

Atlantis: Cuff Detail

Even more important, Drezdany liked them too! So now I’m down three pairs of CAYA Coven socks, with many more still to come.

FO Friday: Szmeralda’s Rainbow Jaywalkers

Through the miracle of the yarn that lated way longer than I thought, I have another finished object for you! I really though I’d run out of yarn before I finished this, but I didn’t!

Szmeralda's Rainbow Socks again

These are Szmeralda’s Rainbow Jaywalkers. I wasn’t sure who they were for when I started them–I was just frustrated and stalled on socks for someone else, so I picked these up as a break. I was puzzling over the recipient when it hit me that the colors are just perfect for my friend Szmeralda.

Szmeralda's Rainbow Socks

The yarn is Plymouth Sockotta and I’ve unfortunately lost the colorway. But it’s a rather old dyelot, and I’m not entirely sure they’re still making this one. The pattern is Jaywalkers by Grumperina. (These are my third pair. It’s great for varigated yarn.)

FO Friday: Kismet’s Socks

Another finished object to show you! I actually finished these last week, but had to take them out for a photoshoot, and deliver them to someone who could get them to the recipient before I could blog about them!

Kismet's Socks

These are some soft, squishy socks I made for my friend Kismet. Because apparently, I show my love by knitting things for people. Any way, I forgot the yarn I used, but I chose the color to match Kismet’s hair! The pattern was the Copper Penny socks from Knitting Socks With Handpainted Yarn. They worked up quickly and easily, and I think they turned out well.

The only problem? Judging by the reactions of all of my other friends who saw them, I could be knitting socks for a long, long time….

(I suppose that’s good, right? So many people complain that no one appreciates their handknits, and here I have twenty or thirty some odd people, the majority of whom seem like very appreciative future knitwear recipients….)
